The Picture Framers Guild of Australia welcomes and applauds the decision by the Federal Skills Minister, Brendon O’Connor to include the Picture Framing Apprenticeship on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List.
This decision means that there are now wage subsidies provided to Picture Framing employers of 10% in the first and second years and 5% in the third year of the Apprenticeship. Furthermore, up to $5000 is paid directly to the Apprentice across two years.
These subsidies will greatly assist in the recruitment and retention of employees as apprentices. In the Picture Framing Industry there is currently a shortage of skilled picture framers and this Federal Government initiative will be very beneficial to increasing the skill base throughout the industry in Australia. The PFGA looks forward to working with and assisting the Federal Government in it’s further review of the whole approach to apprenticeships.
